The Clyde Road LXRP is a complex road under rail project that has required careful consideration of urban design and public realm opportunities, balancing the needs of key stakeholders, such as the City of Casey and Metro Trains, with programme and construction requirements. Urban Initiatives’ Urban Design Team worked closely to interpret the Urban Design Guidelines and ensured that the proposed works were site responsive and connected to the broader urban context, key facilities, and open space network. Bespoke treatments for the bridge cladding and precast concrete walls which graphically express local landscape features and character are core to the design. Through this project we worked closely with the UDAP, presenting the design concept at key milestones. UDAP were very supportive of the innovative approaches we developed for the project with material choices and treatments refined to reflect their feedback and the collective experience of the panel members.

In addition to engagement with UDAP, Urban Initiatives also worked closely to support the alliance on stakeholder engagement process to ensure community input was considered in the design response. This included meetings and workshops with Council and presentations to a range of community groups and service clubs including the Berwick Rotary Club.

We have also been involved in the LXRP Urban Design Subcommittee attending regular meetings to particulate in the discussions and lessons learnt experiences of urban designers, architects and landscape architects across the programme.
