Urban Initiatives was engaged by Atkins Consulting Pty Ltd, on behalf of Otway Emery Health Consortium Pty Ltd, to undertake the Landscape Architectural project requirements for the proposed Bendigo Residential Accommodation Project in North Bendigo for intern and visiting health professionals.
The project includes ten new, one to three storey, residential buildings, on-grade and basement level parking, both podium level and on-grade public landscape, and smaller private courtyards or balconies. Pursuing high quality, affordable and sustainable solutions was the key design aspiration for all project consultants.
Urban Initiatives’ role included site assessment, feature survey co-ordination, vegetation assessment, assistance with the landscape components of the town planning permit application and design of the hard and soft landscape works.
As part of the concept design stage, UI researched suitable sustainable products and technologies for use in the project. ESD and broader ethical principles underlay the consideration of materials when assessing their performance, affordability, longevity and aesthetics. The podium level landscape features a combination of hard paving, grassing, small trees and planting beds – all on a fully waterproofed and free draining base.
A presentation of the possible podium level landscape construction methods, technologies and associated costs was given by Urban Initiatives to the Client and key project parties.
This project is now at documentation stage and is scheduled for commencement in late 2013.
